Thought I would share my positive experience with a battle on Dinoflaggelates I recently overcame. At first I wasn't having any luck with killing them, I tried H2O2, Reduced Light Cycle, water changes, saying 3 Hail Mary's, etc. I was about to give up on it, and I came across an article. It suggested using a multi-pronged approach by using several techniques together. It actually suggested NOT doing water changes, H2O2 dosing @ 1mL per 10 gallons of total water volume, and reducing your light cycle to about 4 hrs a day. At this point I would try anything so I stopped water changes for a month, dosed H2O2 everyday and reduced the light cycle. It took almost 5 weeks to overcome but eventually it all died off and I haven't had any dinos in 2 weeks.

I wanted to share this simply because of the H2O2 I was dosing. I think that this should be in every reefers toolkit. At one point in my battle I actually pulled a lot of my corals out and dipped them in a peroxide/RODI mix simply because they were covered in dinos and algae. The corals were obviously not happy but the H2O2 literally ate every last dino and bit of algae. It took about 24 hrs for the coral to recover and now it looks better than ever. I still do a maintenance dose of H2O2 once a week just to make sure.

I think attacking dinos at all angles is what finally helped me. Maybe you can try this technique if you are having dino issues.

I had this same problem about a month ago and did the same thing and it worked out great!!! I now dose twice a week and have no issues what so ever.

My technique was just leave it alone and it eventually went away. I work smarter, not harder.

Excellent title for the thread. And thanks for sharing your experience. Tackling it head on and squashing it seems more your style. Unlike Mitch's style of, "stare at your tank, sigh with feelings of shame and mental discomfort, and hope it will go away someday"....
