Dinos - best course of action?

Looks like my 45g has Dinos based on reading many threads and seeing photos. They seemed to come after I treated the tank with chemiclean for cyano that was rampant. Is Dino X the next best course of action?

Yes but if u want to get rid of them long term get a fish thats a sand shifter

After you have confirmed dinos using a microscope, you might try Dr. Tim's formula wihich includes a 3 day blackout and increases competing organisms. UV is successful for managing some species and, if course, you want to make sure nitrate and phosphate haven't bottomed out. Good luck - no instant sure fire cure ime and you may need to experiment with different approaches. Just search this blog - managing dinos is probably only second to getting rid of aiptasia.

Just be absolutely sure you know the exact volume of your tank. I overdosed dino x on my tank and it took out almost all of my SPS, killed my Kenya tree and toadstool (which I didn't think anything could kill), and severely irritated my LPS

Thanks guys will likely try the 3 day blackout. I actually moved out the majority of my items to my new tank before treating the cyano. Only thing left are some inverts (haven’t lost any surprisingly) and a BTA. I am converting it to a nem tank so should I treat before restocking with a pair of clowns or restock first?

I would seriously consider removing remaining livestock and nuking the tank, use new sand, etc. Dinos are no joke and, depending on species, their toxins can and do kill corals and other organisms.

Option two is tearing this down and starting a new nano and selling it (since my wife won’t let me keep it both). Can you get Dinos in a system that doesn’t have zero nutrients? Say 7ppm Nitrates and 0 or close to zero phosphates?

Siphon up.
Starting Today, turn off all lights for 5 days. If you have sensitive coral, you can run Blue at 5%
Tonight and next 5 nights, add 1ml of peroxide per 10 gallons (yes it is safe). Each days, blow any dino loose with a turkey baster and net the loose matter or force to overflow and clean filters daily. During the day , add 1ml of Liquid bacteria per 10 gallons of volume. In 5 days, should be all cleared up.
DO NOT at this time any coral foods OR add NoPox which is food for Dino. You can feed any fish in the tank as normal

Maybe a lfs would keep your livestock while you clean out tank and recycle. If this isn't possible, I'd treat tank with livestock in it, trying Dr. Tim's first. May need a UV sterilizer to knock dinos down - it's a process.

And, test/confirm for dinos by siphoning out some "stuff" and see if organisms reconstitute into strings.

Thanks - luckily I have flexibility since I was repurposing that tank. If I were to repurpose it, do the rocks essentially need to be cleaned completely before going into a new tank?

I had a bad dino outbreak in my 65 gal and slowly raised the temp to 83. I also fed a little more frequently to add more nutrients to tank as from what I read the water was actually too clean. Dinos went away over the course of about a week. After that I brought the temp back down and haven't had a problem since.
