Dinos bleach testing

After talking with @twilliard about bleach dosing, I have decided to test this out. Upon further discussion I chatted with him about bleach dipping....I hope to keep this thread updated as much as possible....I in fact took a frag of armour of God zoas that was in a dino infested tank, and bleached dipped which was diluted down and stuck the clean frag in my qt for observation. I did this about 1 central time and by 11 tonight all of the polyps are open and look great...will be further observing them for any dinos in the qt since it was a fresh tank set up. I am not responsible for anyone else who tries this as there is no data to back it up yet. It is still under observation.

I've tried vibrant with no luck and I don't feel a blackout completely kills dinos

Whats the amount of bleach to water? Also how long for a dip.

Probably premature but its good that we see that the dip didnt kill the coral, although probably need about 4 or 5 weeks to really see if any dinos come back.

Once I get a positive confirmation that it worked I'll release the amount. But for now I just started testing the theory

I've never used vibrant, but i've had luck doing blackouts. Interesting that the diluted bleach kills dinos, but not the coral itself. Curious to see your results!

Ive found fw dips for corals yeild good results for dinos. Sps, lps and softies, but qt is still necessary.

Did one of my main colonies last night around midnight. Eagle eye zoas, same procedure just twice as long...the plug was covered in dinos...I did notice that after the dip dinos seem to have sank to the bottom but usually they will float if still alive...doesn't mean they didn't form a cyst but only time will tell

I did find if I hang a lit sock "point a LED flash light straight down in sock" in tank at night..i can trap a butt load of these nasty lil creatures..pull sock out before day light.. rinse in bleach water.. then plain tap water.. drip dry .. not like i trap them all.. but sure does seem to help control IMHO.

Yes you can do that as its another form of manual removal but it doesn't solve the problem. Twilliard is working on a cure for clearing the tank, I just started trying to find a way to prevent them from getting into the tank in the first place.

I'll be curious to see your results as well. My dinos have laughed at everything I've done thus far. They put vibrant on their cereal in the morning.

so you did a quick dip not a soak ...correct? just following and wanted to know.

I dip them for a certain amount of time but to early to let the cat out of the bag

I wasn't looking for specifics yet....just wanted to know if it was a quick in and out dip or there was some time they were submerged....

It was submerged for a specific amount of time

Even if it works, where do you plan to put frags after QT?. Or is this a dip people can do on new frags so they don"t bring dinos in.

New frags. I'm taking them out of my dt amd dipping them then putting them in qt for observation.

I am a huge supporter of this discovered information and continue to move forward and refine the process in the fight against dinoflagellates.
I agree with this method and props to the idea buddy!
