dinos in nano

I have a 20G long reef tank thats been setup about 3-4 months thats been having a problem with dinos in my larger DT i got rid of dinos by running uv would the uv listed below work for dinos im terrible with calculating these things lol

That's a pretty small UV...only 5 watts. How big is your DT?
Also, you need to ID which type of dino you have in order to be successful. Not all dinos can be eradicated the same way (some aren't free-floating, so UV wont' do much...still good to have though!)

its for my nano tank thats 20G long and i dont have a microscope but it looks almost identical to the dinos i had in my main DT a year ago they only come when the lights are on during the day i can stir the sand and they will be right back again 2-3 hours later they are also turning my water brown so i had to start running carbon

First- Check phosphates and nitrates to assure theyre not elevated.
Here is full program:
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

Yes. You can however run 15% blue for them

why not just deep clean the system, far more effective and cheaper.

a deep clean is not your normal cleaning, its 10x beyond what you're expecting, but we have about a thousand logged already including hundreds of 20 gallon reefs. the chance it beats dinos is about 90%, higher than any other method.

it takes three hours to deep clean a 20 the right way, from our logged action threads.

install your uv after the rip clean, not before, for ultimate action.

no, the deep cleaning is a tank relocation thread. we deep clean to avoid recycles on moved tanks, yours is simply staying in place but getting the same workover.

deep cleaning doesn't become bad or destabilizing in an in-place nano, and then all good for when its time to move.

if the aquarium is of such size that getting it cleaned is easy, then its always good.

ive tried that and the dinos came right back as early as this morning i sucked out the dinos as much as i could and did a large water change and i can already see it coming back

Over 150 people including myself where it didn’t come back. Deep clean is great until nutrients return and risk of reoccurrence.

Please don't do long term black outs. They don't eradicate dinos and they can cause livestock loss in an already stressed tank!

Dinos are not one entity. There are some general things to do for all of them but knowing which species you have is very important. Some are easily eradicated by UV and others aren't affected by UV at all. If you are on Facebook, go to this group and you will get the help you need. I had dinos before the GHA in my tank; I found that skipping a water change for a week or two helps build up the other algae cells or bacteria to fight off the dinos. Try that.

Perfectly ok to do both. It shouldn't affect the function of the carbon function.

Well ive been dosing h202 and microbactor7 for 2 days instead of dosing h202 every evening i do it twice. 2ml every morning before the lights come on and every evening a few hours after the lights go out so every 12 hours with microbactor in between. i can no longer see the dinos on the rocks or sand but thats probably because i have only blues running at 15% the real test will be in a few more days after i start to running the lights a little higher

Well ive completed the 5 day h202 and microbacter 7 treatment and the dinos are gone i turned the blue lights up slightly yesterday today they still havent shown their ugly head but now my water is kinda milky looking i guess from the h202? or maybe it was all the microbacter7? i dunno but im afraid to do a water change lol my 2 maroon clowns my cleaner shrimp and my rock flower anemones are doing good i lost 2 snails and my orange leg crab is ok too

I will try this too.

Can I move corals to QT tank with heater and air stone, and light for these 5 days?

Should I use UV sterilizer inside tank too?
