Hello all! First off i want to apologize in advance for bringing up another Dino thread. I've read through the sticky thread and all the others that have been posted. I've been battling this for a few months now and is getting frustrating. ive tried everything (feels like everything in the book) multiple 72hr blackouts, H2O2 dosing, Phyto dosing, tried Dr.Tims Re-Fresh / waste-away, heavy skimming, cut back on all feedings (fish/coral) running redsea carbon and phosban through a reactor. light period cut back alot now. it just keeps coming back.

whats next that im missing to fight this issue?

40 breeder tank with 2 Hydra 26 HDs
29 Gal Tall Sump

water parameters (all Salifert kits)
salinity 1.025
temp 78-80 F
Alk 8
Ca 430
Mg 1300
ph ? (picking up test kit today)
NO3 2.5 ppm
PO4 0.03 ppm

Can you post some potos?
You mentioned you have tried different things in past few months. It will be helpful to know the timeline and what was your observation.
What is your current filtration setup and feeding regimen

Wickedreefs,

I am having the exact same Dino problem. Can you contact me if you found a solution. Either here or [email protected].

I used Dino X which worked, but a few days later, guess what.

Like you I am at my wits end. I try so hard to care for my reef and get those dang Dino’s.

Thank you,
Charles

I tried everything you had and what ended up working in the end was letting my tank get real dirty and eventually bacteria/algae outcompetes it. Typically Dino thrives in ULN because nothing outcompetes it. One day just stopped H2O2 dosing and let lights run and in about a week’s time it was gone. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

DB

When you mean get really dirty, do you mean no water changes, no skimmer etc.?

Really appreciate your insight.

DB,

When you say let it get really dirty, do you mean no water changes, no skimmer?

Grab a microscope and Id these beasts. Than youll know if a uv will work.

I hate the phrase dirty water. I like po4 1 no3 10. Dirty water is just increased nutrients.
At some point you need to add the biodiversity back into the tank. This can be done through lr,grunge, water change from another tank.

I added lr and water change from another tank. Stopped all po4 and bo3 removers.

Yes that is what I mean. I stopped all aggressive nutrient exports including nitrate and phosphate removers and skimming. It’s not gonna make your tank look beautiful but it got rid of my Dino problem. I have resume since though.
