Dinos

I’m battling these for first time right now too. Super low phos tank…but I think a new rodi system is the culprit bringing some unwanted elements into tank. That was the only new element/change for me.

Mine aren’t too bad yet, so manually removing, limiting light and trying to dose neophos to bring my nutrient levels up.

Definitely don’t dose any aminos. I added Ab+ after they started and it definitely gave the Dino’s a boost.

I suffered through this with RODI and sort of called it a main issue here. Out of box 7 stage upgrade was not set up 100% right. I fixed it and moved on. I recommend 2 resin stages and 2 carbon stages always.

A lot of serious reefers on commerical side just replace membranes annually to be safe. I now do this too.

Saline, ph, nitrates all normal. Temp is 78
Yes, this is dino.
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon and net up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15% IF you have light dependant corals) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7 or XLM) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

Please provide the actual numbers for each parameters. Alk, cal, mag, phos, nit, salinity and pics under white light. Technically dinos can only be positively ID with a microscope. Different types of dinos require different types of remedies too.
Provide numbers under white light? Concern with dino associated with po4 and no3. Amphi and Ostreo are most common. . . Microscope will determine what type- not if dino which is often clearly visible

Thank you, I’m going to try that starting tomorrow and I’ll keep you updated! Thanks everyone!

This.
I even didn't had to dose bacteria(set tank up with some live rock).
I did blues only at 35%, I set mine to10% above corals opening threshold.

Unfortunately no, something is not normal or you would not have invasive nuisance algae. Multiple people have asked you to post your numbers for your parameters which helps us determine the source of your problem but you have declined to post them so good luck hope things improve and don't hesitate to use the great knowledge base here on the forum.

Welcome to your new home for saltwater reef aquarium resources and fun! Welcome to the family! :D
