So what is one supposed to do if they do not have a quarrantine tank when they buy new coral? Would just dipping them suffice? Or is that just a gamble?

You're gambling with hair algae, bubble algae, aptasia, nudibranches, flatworms, and possibly ich cysts. Really any fish disease could be present and infect your livestock. QTing frags gives them time to die off and be visually inspected before introducing to your tank.

When I started I didn't QT frags either, but I did dip them in coralRx and then remove them from the plugs they came with and glue them to my own frag plugs. I eventually switched to Bayer dips and now do full blown QT for several weeks in a separate system.

Good luck!

I dip all corals with several products. I have never quarantined a coral. My dipping method is pretty strong so everything falls off. I also physically inspect the coral for any algae and all that crap and scrape with a toothbrush if I have too. Never had an issue. Or

I have ben on the other side of the coin before with not dipping corals and have introduced pests. Its best to dip them IMO. Get the stuff off as quick as possible and let the coral recover from the pests and enjoy a stable environment.
