I've noticed some "blackening" on some of my polpys, only one has had a bad outbreak, and I'm probably seeing things that aren't there. However, Sunday I am changing my tank stand so I'll be draining the tank. My question is should I take advantage of this downtime for the zoas and dip them as we're moving stands? They will be in shock for a few days anyway, so it's not like I'm losing them. If so, recommended dip and lengths of time. (I'll bet Revive is the recommended dip but if I can't get hold of that please give alternative solutions) I'd just like to kill 2 birds with one stone just in case there is a fungus in my tank (BTW is there any treatable way to make sure that these fungii don't hit?)

As usual, THANKS

Tj

Iodine is probably the most potent dip. I like revive or coral RX because they usually kill what I want them too and don't irritate the polyps very much. I've had polyps stay open during dips in either of these for the full 10 or so minutes.

great post, thanks! And since you mentioned iodine and not not at all, I assume it is prudent to go ahead and dip during the change?

So long as you follow the concentration and timing directions, it is certainly not going to hurt anything to dip them. Generally iodine is also a little more accessable then some of the other dips. Some actually do a iodine dip monthly on zoas/palys and say they respond very well to this treatment (I'm not one who does). If you think something is bothering them, then it is prudent to dip. The downside of dipping is that is will eliminate any beneficial invertes along with those that may be irritating the zoas. Be sure and rinse them well in tank water prior to returning to the DT.

as I stated it could be my imagination but I noticed this black fungus on a few frags so I went ahead and did an quick iodine dip on those to hold over until Sunday, if it is a fungus is iodine the best course of action or if I still see it on Sunday try something like furan II?

For a fungus, I would go with furan II or you might try the hydrogen peroxide dip. Sometimes it is effective for the black fungus.

+1 furan 2 is good for fungus plus its the only thing that will really treat zoa pox if you ever get those

I will look at the tank this evening when I get home, if the pieces I dipped still have some black fungus I'll get some Furan II and go on "gut" as far as dipping tonight versus waiting until Sunday when they will be out of the tank anyway

Just keep in mind 1 dip is almost never enough. 3 dips over 6 days is ideal.

I just got back from the LFS and when I get off work this afternoon, if I see any fungus I am going for dip #2, I bought some Revive and Funan II, so I was thinking (dangerous) of only the infected zoas, as someone suggested a few minutes in each.....maybe 3 - 5 minutes in iodine, then Furan II, Revive, and then plain tank water. On Sunday, I'm thinking of at least a Furan II or Revive or both for all of them, since they will be out of the tank anyway. Thoughts? My super gel costs are going thru the roof. If I don't see any fungus tonight, I'll just dip them Sunday for dip #2.

Zoas look good, so I'll just figure out what and how to dip them for Sunday...
