Hello all,

I went to LFS and purchased a pair of clowns, blue damsel, and royal gramma. Everything was going fine, water params are good (Amm 0, nitrite 0, nitrate ~5, phos read 0)

He is still active; swimming happily, eating away, no signs of inactivity other than when him and the other clown retreat to the corner where the heater is (I believe that it is their “host”)

Today he had one eye appear cloudy, and a large white spot on his head. I didn’t notice until I had fed, and he zoomed after some food. It appeared that the white spot (was not there around 6 hours prior to me seeing him) like shook off, and was 3/4 gone. I snapped this pic, and he continued swimming after food and now his eye is clear and the spot is gone. I have googled and googled but I can’t find anything at all. Any ideas?

If it is just one white spot that shook off, then it may just be a piece of sand.

Did you quarantine your fish before placing them in your display?

I believe sand grain and the eye is likely from an injury or bacterial.
For the eye, you may if it dos not clear up in the next couple of days have to treat it with Maracyn AKA Maracyn 1 which is ethromyacin for at least 5 days

Admittedly I did not. I currently lack the ability to do so, and I’ve had good luck with/trust the LFS so I wasn’t overly concerned. The white spot on his head shook off right away and then over the course of feeding his eye cleared up too. Could that also just be debris from the sand in the water column?

Thank you! So his eye did clear up, within the feeding time as he was moving around to catch the mysis. He’s still as active as normal, swimming with the other clown, not scratching/itching/rubbing or acting irritated as far as what I know from my experience with freshwater. Would it be best to pull and treat asap or should I wait it out since it went away and see if it comes back?

See if it comes back in 24 hrs. If so- Treat. If not, observe for improvement
