Hi All. I have a Redsea reefer 250 / about 2.5 years now, with the following fish
2 clowns / small yellow tang / royal gramma, chromis / 1 leopard wrasse (moyers) / 1 yellow tail tamarin wrasse / 1 Carpenter flasher wrasse
Water quality is good, I feed three times a day and fish are fat and happy... but
Last month, my carpenter wrasse disappeared. Checked I overflow, sump and nothing. Nothing on the floor either (I do have a cover).
Now, my yellow tamarain wrasse appears to have disappeared too... not in overflow or sump or ground ...

That got me wondering ...
I do have a large serpent star that looked especially puffy today

And a brittle star as well

I’ve had both for over a year... Any of you have had experiences with them eating fish ?

No cats or dogs here. Any other thoughts on the starfish ?

Does he do that from time to time ?? My carpenter wrasse seems to be missing .he was perfectly fine yesterday , now I can’t find em :/ ..
if its been a couple of days check the overflows or the carpet. They are know jumpers and will jump out of a non covered tank.

Mine is covered.thats why I’m so confused.i figured the overflow is covered, the tank is covered , and if he would have passed the hermit crabs would be eating him.no signs of him still .

What type of serpant do you have

I’ve seen some websites state all of the big stars are capable of taking fish...I know for a fact that the green brittle stars will take fish since it happened in my dads tank when I was younger. A decent clean up crew can make small fish disappear quickly without a trace, especially if a decent sized starfish is involved. Which fish did you find and where was it?

Depending on your rock work, the fish could have gone into hiding. Friend of mine had a wrasse vanish only to reappear a month later.

Fish could also die and then be eaten by the clean up crew. Not necessarily murdered.
