I've been struggling with this sludge/dust/slime growing in my tank when the lights are on and once the lights go out they disappearing at night. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a microscope. These were my findings, if you could identify and give me some kind of solution I would gladly appreciate it :)

I do also have some other algae in the tank but I'm not to concerned about that right now, one thing at a time lol

Can we please have a picture of the tank.

I would say that you have a case of diatoms.

How long has the system been setup?

Are you using a RO/DI fillet for your water?

Tank is 5 months old, I use rodi water from my own system. I'll be honest I really don't think it is diatoms, it more of a sludge.

You have both dinos (looks like coolia to me) and chysophytes in that picture. The chrysophytes will usually resolve on their own. If that is coolia, it responds to UV (plumbed from and back to the DT, not from the return/sump). Post this picture in the dino thread in the stickies for an ID.
