Disappointed with hanna phosphate tester

So I ordered the hanna testers today and I really thought there was stuff missing from the box. You really only get regent for 6 tests? I mean spend $50 on a tester then have to give the company more money after only 6 tests. Other traditional test kits give you more than 10 or even 20 times that number of tests for much cheaper. I just feel kind of like I didn't read the fine print and got scammed on it.

I got mine locally and they gave me a refil pack. But I dislike it because I get different readings every time. I can do it 3 times in row and get 3 different resultes

I have read that they are very unstable between tests and you should calibrate it before every test. Seems a bit excessive to me.

Your paying 50 for the unit it's self. It was your assumption that you were going to get more than a few tests. I love my hanna checkers. Results are always withing +/- 2ppm max. I find that people who get inconsistent results are not doing the test properly. I had redsea kits that I would double check the hanna with before I ditched them for hanna. Hanna customer support is always A+ ever have a problem call them and they send you new units with no problem.

Have to follow directions verbatim. The vile has to be completely clean of finger prints and the water needs to be clean of any free floating debris. C1 is fresh clean saltwater from tank. Then add regent and let it dissolve. You can help it dissolve by twirling or teetering without producing bubbles. Once the regent is completely clear, place it back into the unit and LONG-PRESS C2 for the 3 minute counter. After 3 minutes, you'll have your results.

One issue I have is it shuts off before the reagent is dissolved. I don't really care about what it came with. I have tired buying new refills. Still dose it. I just wish it was a liquid reagent like the alk test.

The kit comes with two viles? For now, just fill both viles. Add regent to one and not the other. After awhile you'll get used to it all and be able to do just one.

Yeah I don't like that either but... that only happens when I try and zero with one vial and then mix with same. Your supposed to use one vial for zero and one for testing then you have plenty of time.

I get pretty dependable and consistent results with my hanna phosphorus ULR checker. But I'm very anal with following the exact same testing protocol every time with it.

That's what I do. Can some one do me a favor. Test there po4 and wait 5 minutes and test again. I just want to know what kind of time you have before results change

That wont work well for consistency or accuracy. One vial for zero and add reagent to the same vial. There's plenty of time. Prepare the packet first. Add and mix for just over 2 minutes. Then press and hold the button and you have 3 minutes where its supposed to be in the checker settli g in. Also make sure to not touch the vial and no microbubbles on the sides.

Steps I do are in the po4 shootout thread I linked to above.

Im acually in middle of testing everything. Cant understand the question but i have both url and p04. What would you like me to do sir =)

I just want you to test with the normal phosphate. Then with same sample test again 5 minutes later.

I have read and followed. But the powder dose not fully dissolve unless I tilit it up and down for about 4 or 5 minutes
