Hello:

I am setting up a sump and the first section of the sump will be a refugium with chaeto. How best should I have the flow from the tank overflow enter into the chaeto refugium? The refugium will be about 12" X12" x 12". I am looking at having about 700 gph through the refugium. Should I just pipe the flow going straight down in the corner of the refugium? Should I try to disperse the flow to try to tumble the chaeto? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I was looking at your build, stands looking great.

What are you putting in the fuge? Usually the first chamber would be for socks, some form of mechanical filtration, or just empty. The water coming down from the overflow will be really turbulent. You could run the flow into the corner of that chamber, but I would have some type of baffle or sock to smooth the turbulent flow or that fuge will be stirred up to much. Usually a fuge is run further down

Thanks on the stand. It has been slow going, but I am enjoying it. I also only have hand tools so that takes longer too.

I am going to have some diy rock in the fuge with chaeto. I don't plan on running mechanical filters full time. I probably will use a filter sock if I stir the aquarium gravel or blast off the rocks. I think turbulence will be good with chaeto?

Thanks,
Chris
