So last night at lights out my clowns were happy as pie swimming around. This morning I woke up to one of them laying on its side gasping. They have been in the QT for two weeks now. I added media from my cycled tank plus a few pounds of live rock with shrooms/coral that I was quarantining. Have been feeding them frozen mysis and new life spectrum thera +A and they have been gobbling it up.

The temp has been rock solid at 79. Never had an ammonia spike but nitrites did show up about 0.25 last week. I did a small water change and they have been pretty much non existent since last week. Nitrates are between 10 and 20. The only thing I can find wrong is didn't top off the water yesterday and the salinity this morning was 1.028 and my PH is on the low side at 8.0.

Sucks that I have been at this for two weeks and already lost a fish.

Bummer! :( I wouldn't get discouraged. When I first bought my pair of clownfish, I lost one of them too. The one that was turning female beat up the other clown pretty bad and it happened very quick. I did not have enough time to separate them. I would just keep a close eye on the other clown.

Hate you had some problems but dont get discouraged.

Anyone who never had a fish die or some kind of set back is lying. A fish will manage to jump through openings you can't see, come in with internal parasites that you can't cure because you don't know until it's too late, etc. Just do your best to keep the water quality high and feed them well. I was lucky setting up my first tank but my 2nd tank it went though a long harsh cycle and I killed 2 fish (at different times). Took 3 or 4 weeks before I could safely add fish.

It sounds to me it was out of your control as you were more diligent than a lot of reefers myself included. I know it's a tough loss when you go to bed with a happy/healthy fish and wake up and it's gone. Don't get discouraged, just get another clown :)

I concur with Loki and the rest! Don't get discouraged. I just started a tank a couple months back. Went through 2 months never lost anything other than my former dottbacky back eating some shrimp and an arrow crab:/ but thats just survival of the fittest which is why he got removed. But I got a Bangai Cardinal a couple weeks back and the first day he hid, thinking nothing was wrong I go to bed and wake up and he can't swim other than just going with the flow of the current sideways, it was horrible. Params all in check qt'd him, so needless to say he had an internal issue. Nothing we can do about, as we don't know exactly what is in our fish because they can't tell us if something is wrong most of the time. Then this weekend I wake up and my Electric flame scallop was a gonner, I opened it up and there was a pea crab in there! It was wild but needless to say we never know what's truelly in our fish/inverts/liverock in our tanks! But you should be commended on your diligence.

So on brighter note the guy in brown showed up today with some stuff to start my build(upgrade). Stay tuned tomorrow for the official build thread with lots of pics : )

Is it me or is there no edit button? Also wanted to thank everyone for all the support. I was really questioning myself this morning but you guys helped me to realize some things just happen.

There will be an edit button once you meet the requirements ie posts and time. I'm glad we were able to help :). I like to think of the people here as the best reefers on the planet! You're one of us now lol :)

I agree 100% !! The "other" forums has some smart people with good nformation but the presentation of this info leaves a lot to be desired : )
