Any ideas what this is? Dark spot to the left of his eye. Bacterial? Just showed up today.

Reef tank. Any ideas on how to treat it?

Thanks

There's a small pistol that stays under a rock, few hermits. He's friends with the other fish in the tank. Overall a very peaceful tank.

Had him about a month and suspected he might have ich when i first dropped him in. Got a UV, fed him right and he's been fine. Moved some corals in the other day and likely stressed him a bit. Have been seeing him scratch against the rocks the last couple days. Coincidentally, the UV has been off for those days as well.

Could be wounds from scratching the rocks #reefsquad

In most cases dark patches are bacterial infections. Do you have a qt you can run antibiotics in? Otherwise feed him good and keep pristine water conditions and it may go away on it's own.

Posting this thread as well. Do you use activated carbon?

If have a bucket and airstone a 30 minute methylene blue bath can also help. Have the eyes gone cloudy at all? Being near the eyes and face, wouldn’t hurt to rule flukes out as the initial infection with a few dip.

No QT, but have been feeding well and water params are good. Thanks

I could probably manage that if I could catch him. He's pretty skittish. Eyes have not gone cloudy. He eats fine. Only other thing thats concerning is that it looks like he's breathing quickly. Although, I'm not totally sure if he is or not. Has been like that since I got him and he's been fine. A month or so.
I did initially give him a fresh water dip, didn't notice any flukes, but could do it again if I catch him. Kinda don't want to stress him at the moment. Seems like these guys get stressed and sick easily.

Yes I run carbon.

I'm not ruling out the begining of HLLE.

Head & Lateral Line Erosion "HLLE":

Symptoms
-
HLLE literally looks as though the skin is rotting or peeling off the fish. Affected areas usually include the face and lateral line, and may be white in color.

Treatment options - This is more of a condition than an actual disease. Since no one can agree on the exact cause, all you can do is address all of the following theories regarding HLLE:

1) Stray voltage - Use a titanium ground probe & test your tank for stray voltage.
2) Running carbon - Don’t use it, or use only premium grade carbon.
3) Nutritional deficiency - Feed high quality nutritional foods. Some have had success reversing the effects of HLLE by soaking food in “fish vitamins” and also feeding nori.

I was thinking this is possible as well. It may be an infection but it might be nothing. I'd just observe and be sure to soak foods in things like selcon, zoe, vita chem, etc. and offer it lots of nori (needed for proper nutrition of tangs -- tangs without nori can develop HLLE relatively quickly) and check for the other possible causes.

It's the location that got me thinking HLLE.
