Disease identification help.

My clown recently seems to have contracted some kind of fungal infection. Although he is behaving normally he has stopped eating and has started to develop some pop eye as well. I added a small chevron tang a couple days before the infection showed up but qt'd the chevron for several weeks before adding to the main tank. Does anybody have any idea what this disease is and if its possible to treat?

Suggestions range from copper, malachite green and other remedies, with some recommended being used in conjunction with formaldehyde. However the general consensus is these types of medications are either largely ineffective or do not work at all, and that the best and most effective treatment for Brooklynella is formaldehyde alone. Typically a standard 37% formalin solution is mixed with either fresh or saltwater in a separate treatment container, intitially all fish are given a quick dip or a prolonged bath, followed by continued treatment and care in a QT. Of course the longer fish are exposed to the formalin treatment, the more effective it will be at eliminating this "disease". Whether to administer a dip or a bath to start with is something you will have to determine yourself, but there's a very simple way to do this.

Sounds like Brooklynella.Put it in Qt ASAP.It has been know to cause death as soon as 48 hours.You could slow it down with a fresh water dip but you are going to have to dose some copper or malachite green to finish treatment

It looks almost like a mildew coating the fish. Will move to QT asap its been like this for about 4 days now. I figured since it looked fungus like it wouldn't infect the other fish. All I have in terms of chemicals right now is quick cure and herbatana. Will either of those help?

Iv never used either one of them before so I am not sure.I have read that in some cases Epsom salts help but I am not sure what dose it would be.Ill PM you a few links that may be of more assistance

At any rate I would at least try a fresh water dip since it doesn't seem to be overly advanced yet and place in the QT until you get the meds!Hope it turns out okay for you and the fish!

Great cure all = Chloroquine Phosphate, not easy to find or cheap, but works very well, usually a one time dose for 10 days is all you need. Not for reef tanks.

I went by the LFS today and showed them pics of the disease. They believe its actually velvet. Not brooklynella and reccomended copper dosing for the QT. Any experience with either velvet or copper dosing?

I said that too and they say that stress can occasionally cause popeye. The fish has obviously been stressed so maybe that's why? They recommended cupramine for treatment.
