Hey guys,

Not sure what’s going on in my tank. As I took the photo of my angel, it freaked out then started floating around the tank... I took him out then he started acting normal again? In the last week, my powder blue and purple tang has died, to similar effect. My purple tang had a similar death, stopped swimming, laid on its side and eventually died. Can anyone tell me what’s going on? Could it he a bacterial infection?

Tank:
Ammonia: 0.01ppm
Nitrates: 14ppm
Salinity: 1.024
Phosphates: 0.6ppm

That sort of “shocky” behavior can come from anything hat has the fish in a marginal condition. I once photographed a angelfish in a quarantine tank using a flash and it died the next day, I found it had internal nematodes.
Based on the slightly tattered look of your fish, I wonder if they could have flukes. Have you treated or dipped them for that?

I dipped the powder blue tang and couldn’t see anything. The purple tang and angel I have not. As we speak my blue tang is now laying down similar to the purple tang.

One other possible diagnosis is then Amyloodinium, velvet. It often shows with rapid breathing, and very little external marks on the skin. Fish will stop feeding and tend to hover in water flow. The glassy eyes I see may also be a symptom. This is a swift killer, one option would be to FW dip the fish and get them into a QT at full copper right away. To be honest though, once fish loss has happened, it is very difficult to stop this infection.
