Anyone have any insight as to what’s going on with my tang? Noticed this discoloration on its tail today. Seems to be acting normal with food and Socialization with others. No other fish show signs.

Notice she will swim to bottom and flash towards the ground by the clownfish and anemone.

also, she usually sleeps on a cave. I saw that because it almost looks worn. Like she rubs it getting in and out of cave.

Is it a hole? Or something on the surface? If the latter, probably Lymphocytes. Common and harmless. Kindof like a wart.
Usually it goes away on its own and is related to water quality, bit not always.

My Blue tang sleeps and shelters in the rocks. A few weeks ago his dorsal fin was injured, and white like yours. I kept an eye on him and in a week or so, he was all healed up.

Is it raised up a bit and cottony, fibrous, or cauliflower like in texture? Or is it smooth and filmy?

Are there a few spots/bumps on the black area towards her tail?

I adopted a hippo that had a similar area on the tail, it looked like the color was rubbed off or something was going on...not lympho. It had a few raised spots on its back that weren’t ich.
It’s now in Qt being treated for a bad viral infection that spread all over the body.

I’d recommend feeding the hippo the ultimate diet to help fend this off. (Add vitamins to foods, add beta glucan per @Big G, nori and high quality foods).
Hoping for the best.

Not that I noticed. Just that worn area. I was going to stop this week at LFS and grab some vitamin/supplements anyways for food. That was my first solution when I noticed.

Hoping it’s something simple. Just finished 76 + days of fallow period from a velvet outbreak that wiped my tank clean. New fish were all QT prior to going in tank and have been in there for about 2 months now. Don’t want to go through that again. Sucked. Catching fish in a full stocked tank is a haunting experience.

Smooth, now at really even filmy from what I could tell. Reminds me of a distressed paint finish.
Smooth white filmy areas should be viewed with great suspicion. It can be a symptom of a bacterial infection. For tangs, NFG powder is the best antibiotic to treat bacterial infections in a QT. Another option is to treat with Ciprofloxacin in a bath, which is nice as if you don't have a QT handy and setup.

So after review today, it’s definitely more than discoloration. Has almost a film to it or cottony like texture...
