Hi, I have a question. If fish that are in a tank where ich/velvet was present on other fish and after 3 months the remaining fish who were not moved to QT, still show no signs of any ill health, do they still have to be removed for the parasite to die/starve? If that is the case, then all the fish would have to go through the medication process? Thank you.

OK, thank you for responding. So regardless if symtomatic, all fish should be removed and treated. I wasn't sure if the unaffected fish needed to go through a hospital tank/ medication round as well.. Will sand and rock affect the medication? I have 3 wrasses, two of which sleep in the sand, a flame hawk, a purple firefish and a smith blenny who all sleep in the rocks. I would like to put sand and rocks ( which I would not reuse) in the hospital tank for them, so they are comfortable. Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first time I ever had a disease in my tank, after almost 7 years. I assume it came from my dwarf angel, that I only QT'd and did not treat with anything while in the QT

It is often suggested to take a bowl of sand and put it in your hospital tank. This give the fish what they need without too much volume to impact chemistry. PVC fittings take the place of rocks to provide shelter without impacting chemistry.

Thank you all for your replies! Ok, I will put PVC in there and something w/ a little sand so my two wrasses can sleep... I have a red headed wrasse, an ornate leopard wrasse and two spot hog fish ( which I think falls under a wrasse type)...

Thank you all again for your replies! I did buy Coppersafe and I will set up a 40 gallon tank for the rest of my fish. I think they should be fine in that size. Is there any special filtration to use? I was thinking of putting a sponge filter in there, as well as a power head and an airstone.

I would use a HOB which utilizes a sponge (or similar) for biological filtration. The Aquaclear or Bio-wheel are the two I most often recommend.

You'll also need to "seed" the sponge (or bio-wheel) before dumping copper in. You can pour Bio-Spira, Seachem Stability or Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria over it for 2-3 days in order to get your bacteria levels going.

Thank you Humble Fish.. I have Dr. Tim's already from setting up my 10 gallon hospital tank.. I will use a HOB , instead of the sponge filter.. Thanks again for your advice and help... All your stickies are awesome reads!

a little shy of 5 weeks and he looked fine... was eating like a pig and curious about anyone who went near the tank, never hiding or reclusive.. I did have two pieces of LR in my QT tank and he was always pecking at it, never saw him flash/ scratch on the rocks... never observed anything wrong I that saw... an unfortunate way to learn..

I've had too many fish die in quarantine using Cupramine. Now I just watch for 3 months
