I noticed some spots on one of my triggers and thought that it was ick, maybe velvet. Both of which seemed strange because I haven't added anything to this tank in about six weeks and all my fish stayed at the store for a while showing no signs. I immediately went and bought the really two part, ick kick and the pink one that comes with it and treated according to directions. A few days passed and all my fish showed the same signs. Completely covered in spots, fin deterioration, swimming into powerhead current, hidding from light and less appetite though still eating but not as much. Long story short, ended up losing 3 triggers, 1 tang, 1 puffer, 1 angel.
The survivors include dragon wrasse, red sea sailfin tang, porcupine puffer and of course 2 damsels (the unkillable fish).
I'm still confused about what it was exactly. It seemed too take longer to kill them than what I've read about velvet, a few lasted 2 weeks until finally dying, others only a day or so. Although they had all the characteristics of velvet.
My question is, although my survivors are not showing any signs of illness, could they be carriers but immune to whatever it was? I ask because I don't plan on adding anything for 8 weeks as a fallow period, but is this considered a fallow period if I still have fish in it?
Tank is a 200 gal fowlr.
