How long does it take to show on a fish if they have been infected by a disease?
I know Velvet falls off the fish around 5-7 days and same goes for ich.

But how long to show symptoms initially.

Velvet falls off faster, 48hrs iirc. Minimum recommended observation is 30 days I think. If a fish has been in sub therapeutic copper it can take a little bit for something to show. Some fish won't necessarily show spots, like wrasses or other fish with thick mucous coats, but could still be infected in the gills and infect others.

This is why I have gone to prophylactic treatment of all fish in quarantine.

^^ 30 days for ich & velvet, just in case the fish was exposed to subtherapeutic copper. Some gram positive bacterial infections can take up to 30 days for symptoms to show if the immune system was not able to successfully deal with it.

Sometimes, you notice the first spot - other times, folks don't notice anything until the bodies start to hit the floor.

Like Cmcoker, I treat 'm all.

Ditto.

Most fish are kept in subtherapeutic copper before we receive them so it can mask symptoms for 30 days or more. This is frustrating, as mentioned.
