Hello all,

I had a yellow eye kole tang pass away this morning. Attached are the pictures. Have owned for about 4 months and always very active, however noticed to myself the other day how I felt he looked paler than normal. Nothing about him had changed so I dismissed the concern after testing water conditions to be normal. Is there anything that can be taken from these pictures for cause of death? Also attached is a current foxface in the tank which I am noticing today also looking much paler than normal. You can see the brighter yellow and then the rest dull coloring. I am scared I may have a life threatening disease present now which I need identification and treatment assistance. There were no signs of itch on either fish (the white spots) and the other tank inhabitants look their normal self. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your fish. It's a little hard to identify anything from the pics, do any of the fish look like they have a dust like coating on them? If not you may want to start with a freshwater dip to check for flukes

Usually a loss of color is another symptom. are the fish rapid breathing, flashing, light sensitive, not eating etc. It can be a variety of things and you are only noticing this one symptom. See if you can pick up on anything else. Try a freshwater dip and see if that helps.

Difficult to tell without knowing any history on the tank, equipment, husbandry practices, etc. Could be a number of issues like fluke, which is hard to detect with the naked eye, timer on light is acting up, poor diet especially if the animal is an herbivore & not getting enough sea veggies, failed equipment like a heater & causing temps to fluctuate or a live current running through the water. There is also the fact that some fish are fished out of the ocean using nerve gas, which is detrimental to any living animal & can cause unexpected death. Without any background on the tank, my best advice is to run a thurough inspection of your tank & equipment, parameter test & maybe begin feeding medication infused food. Just tossing ideas & hopefully something clicks. Good luck.
