Disintegrating brittle star fish

Got a small hole in its head that spread and now I think it’s dead. I had hermit crabs in the tank. Do you think they attacked it. Probably had them in there together for a month

How long has the system been setup?
Would you happen to have a picture

FYI-In a newer system, there is not enough algae for star fish to sustain. I ran into this when I added a cool starfish in a newer system.

Regarding starfish, a hole or disintegration showing little balls is never good. Can you provide a pic under white lighting of the star in its present condition ?

Welcome! Getting picked on, poor water parameters, or starvation can all cause those symptoms!

Welcome! Glad you joined. Seems like there is already info in earlier posts on this thread, but they are seeking a bit more info and perhaps photos. I feel like by now I should be saying 'sorry for your loss' but I'm going to cross my fingers things maybe improved over the course of this week. It can be hard to lose an animal, but hang in there.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread under Forum > Member Aquariums and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)
