Dispar Anthias not coming out

Calanus, fish eggs and brine worked for me for first food. They are a planktonic fish and need very small food. I have also got them to eat mysis by chapping them small..
They are very hard to get on dry food or pellet but it can be done.

Mine never hid that long but you need to get a light over them.
Fish do not like the dark it is predator time and this is already a shy fish at first. A blue led is not enough.
The fact you do not have lighting yet seems to me your tank may not be ready for this type of fish.

Dispar and ignitus are a shy fish but they school out in the open after a few weeks when I have had them...
Hmm that’s a good point about the blue LEDs, I have some whites that I’ll solder in tomorrow arvo! Of course dark = predators

I’m gonna get some frozen too. They are still looking fat and healthy but the clock is ticking..

The tank has been running for 5 months with one small wrasse to mature and I’m waiting for the Orphek or2 150 to be released so that’s why I got no lights.

Ok it seems the anthias are coming out and exploring a bit more. I purchased a pack of Hikari frozen mysis today, only decent brand available in my area. I fed once and they came out but didn’t see them get any food but I’m confident they will eventually eat it as they were eating in in the store apparently.

Good to hear. You probably know this already but make sure the frozen is flying around not stationary. That mimics plankton arriving in the wild.

Yeah my gyres do a great job of that. Also two of them ate some smaller particles today. The third is much more reclusive.

Very shy fish. Mine took 4 months to be social.

Mine have been in the tank 12 days today. Two of the three have become quite bold since just yesterday whilst one is still hiding. The tow that come out seem to love mysis shrimp which is great because I only got it and started to feed it to them yesterday.

Strangely the one anthias that is still very shy is more orange than the other two which are more pink. I noticed one was more orange when they arrived.

You might watch for aggression. The ones that hid for me eventually died. I really think there was aggression between the individuals. That’s quite an accomplishment that they eat mysis. Mine are much longer in the tank and still only eat real small stuff. Hope the third comes around soon.

The two that come out are smashing the mysis now and stay out to mop up the little bits too. The third I think might be getting bits that go in her cave.

Ironically the fish that does not come out is the largest of the three. I haven’t seen any aggression but it’s a possibility.
