Hi guys, I am going to install a sump on my existing 90 gallon mixed reef tank. I will be using a eshopps pf-1000 over flow box as my tank has been set and running for 6 months. I have a sump tank that is 32l x 12W x 20t. I am going to have a refugium, and Skimmer. My return pump is a variable speed dc pump capable at full power of outputting 12,000 lpg (3100 gph). The pf-1000 has a max flow rate of 1000 gph, so that being said how would I go about making sure I do not too much flow through the sump.

Evening

Once you set up the sump turn on the pump at a lower setting. As you slowly increase flow you will be able to gauge the balance between the pump and drain. You will be ab to see if your pump if overpowering the drain, or if you have more drain capacity.

When you set up the sump be sure to test the water levels so they are set to avoid overflows. If you set the level in the sump right if power goes out the sump should hold the tank back flow until the siphon breaks. Also if the drain gets blocked the pump chamber of the sump should empty before the tank overflows

Thank you
