So I have an idea that I would like someone to poke some holes into so I can find out if it is worth exploring.

Currently I have a Neptune Dos setup on my Display to do a 1.5 gallon AWC every evening. My idea is to have the old water output drain into my basement into a 20gallon long - frag quarantine tank. I'm thinking I could drill this tank and make a stand pipe that keeps the water at an exact level. Meaning when the 1.5 gallons of old water from my display (New water to this system) is added, the old frag tank water would overflow into the drain.

The added benefits I'm looking for are:
- Easy to care for
- The systems would run roughly the same parameters
- Not needing an additional dosing system
- Keeping the frag tank isolated from the main display

Ok, what am I missing with this setup?

You're not missing anything, there are quite a few people who run there AWC setups this way to great effect. My only concern would be with the standpipe in the QT, ideally you'd use a third head which I know isn't possible with the DOS. But you may have salinity issues with the QT as you won't be able to use an ATO to compensate for evaporation.

Could I set up a ATO/float switch on the frag tank to maintain the salinity to the stand pipe hight?

This would work as long as you're doing your WC in one go and not breaking it into smaller chunks over the day.
