So I'm diving deeper into this wonderful world of a show fuge. Or at least something fan duck*n tastic and has been kicked up a notch or 2...
I am new to salt, but familiar with chemistry. And extremely familiar with planted tanks. I just found out this was a thing.
The main attraction will still be coral main (obviously). Anyways.. Its a reefer 170 so my space is limited.

I currently have and omega 130 in there andmay or may not keep it for backup Let me know it you want it. 1 month old.

So I jumped the hype, then read.. So i have miracle mud... (My name is mud)
Should I just add play and or live sand to this? I'm shooting for 1" bed?

From what I understand cheato grows the fastest. I have 2 cups of it already hanging out.

I purchased a Asta 20 with 60° lens to run contra from my main photo period..

Since, I cant fit my omega in there (obviously ) I may also get a small tunze magnetic skimmer pre refugium just for the heck of it..

Anyways, what are some of the more pretty algae and what are some of the better filters?
Do you actually have to remove the access algae for the nutrient to be removed with it?
Best detritus critters for left overs?
How much is O2 affected at night when refuge lights full blast and a large allotment of algae species??

Anyone with experience with this would be loved at the moment!! I'm trying to eliminate my giant skimmer. And also add diversity.

Thanks for sticking with the long read!

The macro man on eBay can answer any questions you have and his macro is super healthy and clean. Please tell him I sent you.

If he is selling any macro algae on ebay, I'm sure I'll come across his path.. But again.. I'm just looking for general knowledge on this subject.
For instance, I'm currently running a high tech planted tank.. I do no water changes. My parameters stay well within range and my shrimps are very happy.
Does this hold true for salt?
Or do I actually have to remove said "excess " algae that has already consumed to remove the nitrates, phosphates, etc.. It doesn't make sense to me.. But I'm new.. And it may be a process I don't understand, as of yet.
Id like to mimic my planted tanks in salt form with macro algae if possible and have no need for reactors or skimmers, ect.
Id really like to use algae if anyone can weigh in on it..

The 170 is a 34g display with a 9g sump. I also have a 5g ATO and apex with DOS.

Amd by filters* I mean macro algae not actual mechanical filters. Sorry.
