I have a 220 gallon with 40 gallon breeder sump. It has been set up since January. I upgraded from a 90 and used my rock from the 90 and added additional dry rock. I'm having a terrible time with algae on the display glass. I use a 4 stage rodi from BRS and I get 0 tds from it. My problem is my sump is nearly spotless. I do not have hardly any algae growing in my sump at all. I have tried a couple of times to grow chaeto without any luck and I have tried mexican calerpa with no luck. I have a led grow light above the sump. The algae is growing on the display glass mostly very little on my rocks.
I don't understand why algae will grow in my display but not in the sump. I am using ATI Sunpower 8 bulb over the display. The bulbs are less than a year old. 6 of them are around 9 months and the other 2 are around 7 months use.
Any ideas? Could it be the bulbs? I know there are different opinions on whether old bulbs will cause algae to grow more.
