I am on a septic system and trying to decide how to dispose of used Bayer after dip. Any issues with disposal down the toilet? I'd rather do that then dispose of it out in the woods where some animal might get into it (like my dogs). How do you guys dispose of your Bayer?

Great question - Always feel guilty about dumping it down the drain. I do not have a septic system but I am sure it is not doing lake Michigan any good.

I place it along the side of the house. I figure it will get diluted with rain, etc. FWIW I don't have dogs.

Well dump it in area where you want insecticide and prevent bugs it's works still :)

Answer is always obvious after someone points in out :)

Spray it on the lawn like it is designed for
Guess I am just paranoid about my dogs, all the precautions I am taking (gloves, eye protection) make me worry, the concentration I use is much higher than what's on the bottle. I could dilute it to recommended concentration

I was wondering the same thing, about disposal, since my drain is connected to the large body of water that we get our drinking water from. Well with a lot of treatment plants in between

I did a bit of research, and Bayer is neutralized by exposure to UV light. So if you want to remove the risk, blast it with some UV for a period of time. Then dispose of it.

Don't you mix SW and Bayer when you dip?

It seems like spraying that on your lawn or anything else where you want anything to grow in your yard is a bad idea =)

I killed a bush at my last apartment because I lazily dumped my water change water off the side of my patio (ground floor apartment). Wife was happy to let me know I was a moron.

Well if your want to kill the bugs it'll kill the grass :)

My wife is still mad at me for that as well

It's funny cause I put a sink and drain in my fish room, but had it run as a grey water system out into the woods so I wouldn't be putting all that salt water into my septic system (and RO filtrate), so the only drains I have there shoot out into the woods. I think I'm going to put the used Bayer down that drain and then run my RO to fill the 40G Brute. That should be plenty of dilution I'd think.

The MDS seems to indicate that if you ingest a bunch of it, you will probably be OK by just waiting It also does not stay stable long. I asked a while back in the Chemistry forum on RC and they did not think that any that got in your tank would stick around long enough to do any damage... like maybe a few hours of half life in an extremely diluted state. Maybe Dr. Holmes-Farley could offer a fresh opinion, but this stuff appears far less dangerous than other things in our tanks.

You should be worried about your dogs, don't put it in a part of the yard they have access to.

That can't be right......

The only thing it will harm in your tank is inverts. As for humans, it’s not toxic at all to skin etc. The MSD considers ingestion to be “moderately toxic” but no long term harm.
