Distilled water for 10G Nano

instead of buying a home rodi unit or driving 45 mins to my lfs, could i not just used distilled water from the pharmacy for a ten gallon reef. mainly lps. i see people avoid it cuz of cost for bigger tanks which makes sense but for a ten gallon nano could it make sense?

The problem with distilled water is that the condenser coils are generally copper and theres no way to tell what material the condenser coils used to make that specific jugs water. Over time this could lead up to a build up of toxic levels of copper which would kill your inverts and corals.

I always recommend a ro/di unit and if you are concerned with utilization, get a splitter before the di canister and enjoy drinking and cooking with ro water

i used distilled water from duane reade (i think the brand name is Nice!) in my 20 gallon nano for 2 years and had no issues. if you go this route you should look up the brand you're buying and make sure the TDS on it is 0 though. I dont think all brands of distilled water have 0.

You should be fine, I use it on my 32 gallon biocube. I even use it for water changes to mix my salt every water change and everything in my tank is happy

I’d recommend a RODI and a good one at that, it’s the only pure form of water. Make your own saltwater as well. Atleast a 6 stage I had a 4 stage unit my first few years till something got into my city water and through the rodi causing me to lose over 10k of high end corals. I now run a 200gpd 7 stage with zero issues. Your tank can only be as good as your water.

looks like you're not in the US. i was able to search google to find out the tds in the brand i use. i tried on that but no luck. you could always try contacting the company

I've used nothing but store bought distilled water for 15 years. It's fine!
