Hi Randy, I know this is a dumb question. Is there any way to check the alk I just mixed? Had too many things going on and lost count while mixing... Hate to dump it and start again, but if I have to, I will.

Not sure how accurate you can measure things, this is what I would do if I wasn't going to dump it. I would take a gallon of used tank water and measure the alk. Then use a calculator like this to see how much I should add to get a 3dkh increase.
I would dose that and measure the actual increase. It won't tell you how much you actually added but it will let you know if you are close and you can make some adjustments from there.

There are test kits for kh, but...they are based on titrations. The kh will be very high if you were mixing a concentrated additive, so testing the solution directly might be wasteful.

You could mix up a gallon of salt water, measure the kh, add a quantity of your mix, retest the gallon, and then back into the concentration of your sock solution that way..

I don't know if it'll save you money though.

If you were making my recipe #1 (BRS using washing soda), the alk is about 5300 dKH.

Suppose it is close but below that.

Put 5 mL in a gallon of RO/DI, the alk should be about 7 dKh by titration kit. :)

Great info like this should be added to the Reef calculator sticky section imo!
