Right now I only run filter socks to eliminate bubbles that make it to my return pump. Cleaning them isn't that bad since I just spray them off with the hose but with winter coming they are going to be more of a nuisance. If I put in a sheet of 2" 10 ppi foam do you think that would be enough to eliminate micro bubbles while also not turning in to a nutrient trap?

Pores per inch. The lower the number the less dense it is.

Any thoughts on this? Or should I just stock up on filter socks for the winter?

Probably just a matter of which you think you'll find more convenient: cleaning out the foam or washing out the filter socks.

(Given that my tank is one room away from a sink versus two stories away from the washing machine, I'd rather give the foam a good rinse in the sink than dealing with toting socks up and down from the laundry room.)

I keep all my dirty socks in a bucket and store them outside till wash time.
