Hello People and Aquatic Life!! I’m diving into this hobby as a way to reconnect with the ocean I’ve spent so many years of my life working and living around. I lived on Okinawa from the time I was 13 til I graduated high school. Lovely beaches and aquatic life there! Then joined the Navy and spent time on tugboats in Japan and then worked in the shipyard at Pearl Harbor. Also wonderful aquatic life in those oceans. Went to college, spent a bunch more years in the military and am now retired. I very much miss the ocean, and starting this hobby is a way I’m hoping to reconnect. I’m waiting for delivery of a Red Sea Max E 170 and I’m quite excited for arrival!! I previously had a 75 gallon freshwater tank, but it became more than I could maintain with the massive water changes. But I missed my fish, and as I researched saltwater, the RS Max E 170 seemed a reasonable size to have the reef tank I wanted, with ability to maintain. I am blathering on here, but I’ve learned so much by stalking all of your posts, and I have a ton more to learn as well. Please forgive in advance all the stupid questions I may ask, and I’ll attempt to find answers among the threads before asking. Thank you also in advance for all of your consideration and assistance!!

Their are many ways to run a reef tank.
You do not need to do massive water changes on a reef system, imo.
Check my build thread for more info.
I will definitely check it out! I’ve read there are ways to establish a tank that requires fewer water changes, and that’s definitely what I’m going for. But if it becomes necessary to do a large change for some reason, I can handle 50% of a 40 gallon much easier than 50% of the 75.
