Plan to DIY my sump this weekend. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyone have any good/recommended designs for the baffles? How high they should be, etc?

This is my very first sump.

What size display tank? What kind of GPH do you want? What’s the overflow rated for? Need more info. I used a 29 for my Sump.

Gmacreef.com has some good info that I used to build mine.

Good point. Sorry about not providing more information.

The display tank is 54gallons. I'm thinking of using around 300gph return pump. I do want slower moving water through the sump, from what I've read.

The overflow is going to be made from PVC, so I can make it whatever I need.

Also, do you remember what the dimensions are of your baffles?

@MikeA cool design - how will you be placing or securing the filter socks on it?

@Vahanyos, thanks, but I can't claim too much credit. It's a combo of ideas I picked from a number of places on the interwebs.

An acrylic filter sock holder is fitted in the compartment second from the left in the photos in post #6 above.

It's the top piece of acrylic in the photo below.

From left to right: 10.5, 9.5, 6, 12, 6, all in inches.

Are you planning a refugium in it? You might think about putting the heater in the center compartment.

Plan to use the design, just less water level due to height restrictions

I made my first chamber just big enough for my skimmer. Second will fit my heaters.

This is as simple as it gets. You only need to measure and cut four pieces of glass. It is actually easy to do yourself. Just pick up a glass cutter and some cutting oil from lowes. Lowes also carries GE clear silicone to secure the baffles.

Awesome tank by the way!

Lowe's cut the glass for me. Dude broke something like 20 panes before getting my four.

I always take my tape measure and mark any lumber I need them to cut. They can never seem to get it right. Last time I came home with four different size cuts. I’m like look put the saw blade on the line and then turn it on and cut it. Ha

Btw, I owe you a dollar. You gave me $76. :)

Six months from now and it will be full of coral. I can’t wait!

Good luck on your build and that skimmer should work out awesome for you. I just couldn’t see it sitting there not being used. I hope you get many years out of it.

Thanks man. Truly appreciated.

I just got my baffles in the 29g. It's coming along. Planning to plumb it tomorrow. Hopefully that goes smoothly..

Here's one I did a while back. Dimensions are in mm.

Nice! That was my plan on the socks too. Found a glass shop who could cut 4" holes. I changed my ideas though since I'm switching over to triton.

Here is my current sump

I'll share the new one when it's finished!

Thanks for sharing, it's fun to see other builds [emoji4]
