DIY 40 breeder stand question

Ok so I built the stand to fit the 40b with an eight inch to spare on all sides. Only problem is the sump I want to use is a 20 long and I’m a half inch to small from front to back because of the 2x4 that I used to hold the top rectangle up. So my question is since they are not holding any tank weight can’t I trim those a little?

I think you probably could, but I would switch out your 20 long for a 20 high just so it is a clean fit. The only downside is that your sump would be 6 inches shorter in length.

Add braces to the outsides like mine and I think you’d be ok to shave off 1/4” from each beam.

I chiseled out some grooves for the trim of the 20 long to slide through so now it will fit
