Hey everyone.

I am about to aquire a 400 gallon aquarium. Dimensions are 96" L x 30" W x 36" T. I was wandering if anyone has built a stand for something like this. If so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. @RocketEngineer was told you might could help? I'm fairly experienced in wood working or would something this size need a metal stand?

#WelcometoR2R!!! Congratulations on the new adventure!

The classic recommendation has been to go with steel, but let's ask someone who has had several tanks that size...

@vetteguy53081 - what are your stand recommendations for a 400 gallon tank?

Welded steel is best (see Pics)

Thicker wood well braced also works. My 400g is wood (see bottom pic)

Required? No. If possible? It’s a good idea. I don’t do cut lists anymore but a wood stand for a tank that size is possible if it’s a better option than steel in your situation.

Wood is a better option for me. Like I said I'm pretty well versed in wood working. I can have a stand build from 2" square tubing, but would prefer to build my own out of wood if it is safe to do so.

Would you mind posting a picture from of the underneath side of your stand, so I can see the cross braces? Also, how thick is that plywood?
