DIY Acrylic Acclimation Box

Have a new baby Biota Yellow Tang coming on Wednesday. When I say baby the only ones they had in stock were 1.25". I wanted to protect this little guy after QT. This 200mm x 165mm x165mm box would be over $100 on Amazon. Too much, so I made my own. I had some scrap acrylic, 60w Laser and mediocre CAD skills. Hope the little guy will like it!

I had some cheap 3rd party power heads that came with rubberized enclosed magnets. Took 3 to hold it in place. I’m tempted to 3d print some magnets enclosed in TPU.

Nice work!!! What did you use to hold the acrylic pieces together? Where there any tips or learning experiences related to the assembly that you are willing to share?

I used this to weld the acrylic. I had tried super glue in the past and it’s pointless. This stuff is insanely strong and I bought too much. I’m also going to make an algae scrubber out of acrylic later so it’s fine I bought so much. I wish I had stronger magnets. I ended up using some spare enclosed magnets from some knock off powerheads. They work but kinda janky.

Thanks. I have also used multiple numbers of weld-on in the past with mixed results. It always adheres well but it is not always as clean as I would like.

It took me a few tries with scrap pieces to get a nice thin line. I barely squeezed the tube. Just pressure from holding it was enough to get it to come out
