Im going be building a diy algae scrubber as the thought or spending the money these companies want for an off the shelf item is ludicrous.

To save on power and sump space along with the cost of an additional pump i thought putting the outlet of my uv steriliser to the inlet of the scrubber, obviously the flow will be determined by what i have my uv set to ( and i have no interest in building a manifold)

Any negative things to consider doing it this way?

Besides flow (maybe not), I can’t think of any. Your biggest challenge will probably lighting it without it being marginally dangerous.

Thanks

How would the lighting be dangerous though?

Lol. My DIY one from way back had 4 x 240V clip on, compact fluorescents. The springs break and can end up in the drink :)
Haha yeah wasnt going down a 240v route, led for me, could even mount it outside the sump but that would no doubt encourage algae growth on the sump glass too
