I've been told that my stand won't hold my tank and I want a sump and they said it won't hold it so someone told me to build a new one out of 2x4s and skin it and put an area for the sump. Can anyone help me on this. I have a 29 gallon tank the dimensions are 30Lx12.5W so I don't know anything on building a stand please help

Very easy grab 6-8 2x4's make the top and bottom frames legs and 3/4 inch plywood ( I used birch ) good to go. I had extra 1/2 ply around so I used that then skinned with 1/4 inch birch. Will post a link so u can see. I sec

Granted these stands are larger than you would need but the photos should give you some good ideas. There are many photos of my stand on the thrid page of this thread:

Questions about a 100gallon homemade stand - 3reef Reef Aquarium Forum

It doesn't hurt to have the stand a little bigger than your display if you plan on having a sump and access to it for cleaning a skimmer etc. Higher is always better too as many factory stands do not give you enough room to get a skimmer in the sump then get the skimmate collection cup on and off. I also made my stand 6" deeper front to back than my display for extra room underneath but also so I had a shelf in back for ballasts and stuff.

Check out my build thread linked in my signature. I have a DIY stand skinned with 3/4" red oak along with a matched canopy. Very easy to do and very strong. I could park a car on my stand with no issues ;)

With tanks up to four feet long, all 2 x 4’s. With tanks longer than 4 feet, top frame needs to be 2 x 6’s…..no center brace needed. Skin with whatever floats your boat.

I’m not sure I understand the concern??? The DT does not have to rest on the 2x4’s. The stand can be larger than the dimension of the DT….just use a ¾ ply top and you’ll be fine. Any sump would fit under this stand.

does anyone know if a solid steel tank stand would hold my tank because me and my dad both sat on it and nothing happened so I want to know if anyone else has any opinions on it
