DIY arches? YES. I wish i could do more.

This is my second DIY arch I've made and I honestly love doing it. I wish I could do more.

I compile and puzzle piece small pieces of live rock together, then glue them. They look so natural! This time I added a mini 'shelf' for more corals.

My pink speckled goby likes it too apparently.

(The first arch is to the left, if anyone was curious about that one. First and second were night and day building experiences, Haha. )

Are the flat pieces live rock as well ?

I’ve always went with the pile of rocks and create caves while trying to stack them in a way to be stable as well

Yes! The local store around me has live rock and live base/flat rock as well as a mound of pieces that broke off.

The base/flat rocks are like shelves or good for stacking with overhang or flat surfaces.

I technically have enough rock in my tank for its size, most of it is to the left of the tank. I've been wanting to redo some of it (since i know a lot more about aquascapes) but can't move the big rocks I have in there. So I've been adding in little arches and tunnels/shelves to give it more character...and places to put more more coral of course!

i dig it! it looks nice! great job!

it adds negative space and dimension to your rock scape. ive built similar scapes before, but on a much bigger scale. once you get to building bigger arches and shelves, you'll need to reinforce the rock that you glued together. some other people will actually then "cement" the areas where they joined rock together and smooth it out to make it appear like it's one solid piece that's formed that way.

but nice job! creativity always blossoms small to begin with, and im sure youll be doing bigger and better soon!

My first arch is actually cemented and glued in place, even 'textured' it in some areas. That one is reinforced! This however was just a small activity to see if anything would look good, and I didn't want to get 'too big' as I really don't 'need' anymore rock.

It was a big void and at first I was okay with it, but then I really felt the need to put something there lately, without disturbing my corals placed on the base rock there though!
