hi i was wondering if anybody has purchased from reefgeeks and made their own ATI t5's

reason im asking is its pretty cheap it looks like but do not know if i need any parts that they do not have listed on their site.
and if it is effective.

only thing they will be used for is extra power, and color for my sps system. my orpheks are nice i just do not think i have enough power at the moment and was looking to t-5s to help me with that. and if i like it enough i plan to just build my own fixture after.

here is the link to their page.
Powermodules Fixtures - ATI - T5 Fluorescent - Lighting

any info will help! im sure someone on here has built their own as ive seen some beautiful tanks do it before but i msg the ppl and they never get back to me so i thought i would make a thread to see if i can get any help and if it a good idea.

thanks

I've never done the RG ATI, but I did buy a Hello Lights DIY T5 set and love them. Pretty much the only thing you gotta do is screw the endcaps to a piece of plywood and then sap the harness together and you're done!

Sounds simple and easy!

I got it covered on the local thread kind of but thanks for the response I still have a Q tho.

Did yours come with any other supplies than:

-waterproof end caps
-reflectors
-ballast
-and some clips to hold the reflectors to the bulb.

Would there be anything else I would need? You don't have to splice wires or anything like that did you?

I mean I'd need something to mount it on and hang it, but I'm talking just to at them to turn on and off lol.

I have seen a lot of very sucessful reefs that had the DIY t5's. I have LEDs but with my new setup i am going to slap a couple of those on. Something about t5s reminds me of that toy as a kid i could never get rid of, because it was unique and cool. Even though i have done all leds i still miss t5s.

How much is the entire setup? I just got an ATI T5 4x80watt fixture. With bulbs it was $530 shipped (reef geek).

Really tho, I have all LEDs as well. In running orpheks and personally love em, but like you mentioned there is just something about the t5s

No clue. If I had the cash I would have picked up what you did but I don't and wanna do something different as well. My goal is to hang them on either side of my LEDs put em at a 45degree angle and have them just add a bit more light to my reef.

But it will be cheaper to make your own. But again if I had the money I would buy from ATI cause their fixtures are top notch.
