A quick diy using the original flow method of the RO housing. Useful if your unable to obtain a BRS media holder for such.

First off replace the metal screw with a nylon equivalent. I was unable to find one the correct size so had to re tap the hole.

Next up find a suitable sized rubber washer, my one was from the local hardware store and happend to be a toilet bowl fitting. I was able to finally find a suitable sized bottle, however a fully open screw type top would have worked better.

I have cut the bottle down to fit the 5 inch housing snugly between the top outlet and the bottom support. The measurements for my bottle are as follows.

Top to bottom as the red line shows.
113mm. (my bottle has a concave base)
Max width for the bottle in the 5inch housing will be 70mm.

Drill 1/4" holes in the base of the bottle. I have around 20. Insert any type of screen. I used and old sink strainer. I also cut a small section of the strainer to insert into the top outlet of the housing lid to prevent any carbon escaping.

Fill the cup (bottle) with your choice of carbon/GFO then drop into the housing.

you may notice that the cup cannot balance exactly centred, this is the reason for going with a 70mm cup, it hold's nicely in place. As you screw the top on the housing the bottle will get compressed between the bottom support and the washer creating a water tight seal, therefore forcing the water up through the cup and passing all the media.

I believe this is a slightly more functional method than reversing the flow and having a pipe dispersing water into the free floating media. And of course you can use this in the 10" housing should you require a larger volume of media.

All pressure tested and working nicely [emoji16].

Hope someone can make use of this DIY. All in all its a 20 min job at most.
