Dear Randy, such an honor to speak to you, I also work in a chemical field, but I feel like a new born baby reading all your posts. I'm playing around with some mechanical, biological and chemical filtration and DIY additives, as you think you onto something then you read something and it's back to square one. With our hobby there is no rush , have to be patient and trial one thing at a time.
I would be greatful if I can get some input from you. Not sure if such info should be discussed on forum.

Best regards

Bennie

Hi Randy, no it's not a secret, I'm busy mixing my on reef salt, looking at GFO , GFH , zeolite , Aluminium hydroxide..... If you take zeolite you get several different types, fresh water , salt water and for both. They claim it will absorb NH4 and PO4. In your one post you said rather use GFO. Looking at bulk buying, bigger applications is used for Arsenic removal and waste water treatment. So a very fine line what can man versus marine. All a different topic and many concerns

Thank you I have seen this thread before. Have any of you used this formula or another. What grade of NaCl did you use, I started with a course sample, then a refined sample

I've not, but I think Jim in that thread has made it. :)

What is the best methode of mixing a bigger batch, look at some ribbon blenders and double cone mixers....but the price $$$$$$$

I'm not sure what's best for such salt mixtures. You need a good quality metal because the salts will corrode things fast if they get at all damp.

I used 3 branded salts, made 35 ppt samples, ran metals on AA and ICP. Took average figures, got pricing on Pharmaceutical grade, CP and food grade and did a costing . A big difference between Food and Pharmaceutical grade , surely pharmaceutical is an over kill on all products, which should be fine using food grade
