I am seeing some new filter socks for my tank and I was curious if anybody happens to know what the micron count of felt is?

Most standard filter socks are 200 µm however you can buy material of different sizes in order to accommodate you filtration needs, the smaller the micron the quicker the sock will clog.

My bad I said seeing I ment sewing some new socks out of felt from the fabric store lol
My question is

What micron rateing is Felt?

Understood.

Maybe someone on the #ReefSquad knows that answer to that question.

I am buying my felt at Joanns, using the craft felt. I whole say it close the 200 micron

I think either 100µ or 200µ depending on the vendor.

Another twist to consider is using a mesh bag instead of felt.

That's about what I figured
Lucky for me my wife works at a fabric store so I get it at cost and once I cut the pattern she sees them like crazy:)

@SandJ makes great filter socks out of felt (I would know...I have some in my sump! Thanks again! :D), so maybe she could tell you a bit about how she chooses which felt to use.

Happy to hear they are working out for you :) after reading through a bunch of diy filter sock tutorials, I saw most people buy the ecofelt from Joanna fabric. It does not have fire retardants, may say it is flammable on the label. I wash the fabric before cutting into socks.
