I planned on making a stand for my tank and I was wondering what size boards should I use and any advice on how to make the doors I planned on covering it up with plywood than use a dark wood flooring to finish it I hope it turns out nicely

How big is the tank? I used 2x4s, 2x6s, and plywood for my current project. Construction style will be partly determined by tank size. Adding to a few inches to each end should be an issue. if a top frame is created for the stand then it can be extended on the ends without needing to change the main structure.

I am going to be building my stand for my 120 as well but I plan on making it 6' long and have a center brace at the 4' mark. I had the same idea as you with keeping the electrical in a separate area of the stand. Hope that helps.

Since you have a 55 gallon, you should be able to build just about anything. If you look at the cadlights stands you'll see how little re-enforcement there is inside of those and how open they are. They are pretty much a solid top+bottom+sides and strips on the back to help provide stability from swaying side to side. The link that was posted above gives some really good ideas on stands though. When I was looking at building my stand I followed that closely.

I saw some people with the little drawers for probably testing or glueing frags which I thought was a cool concept I wouldn't mind to try either and so if I make the stand frame longer than my tank would I put more bored in the middle of the top price?
