I just wanted to share a fish trap I made super quick to try and get my lavender tang. Not the best looking trap considering the pictures I took of it were after I caught my tang but still looks roughly the same. I used an empty milk I had in my recycling and cleaned it super well. You can use a little bleach and warm water but not much. I probably spent like 20 minutes cleaning the stupid thing and I this particular milk jug I just left the tag on it. Super hard to get off but it's water resist I found out and stand on for three days straight. I cut the top of it off and inverted it them used scissors to cut a good sized hole for him to fit. My tang is actually still very small about the same size as my full grown clownfish. I then poked holes around the entire jug almost like a shoe and used fish to thread through each hole to keep the keep it together. I tied the 2 ends together and left one end very long so when my tang finally entered the trap I could pull it out quickly. I put in a bunch of seaweed algae food as bait for the tang (it's favorite food). My clowns where the original fish to go in and out of the trap willingly mainly because I think they knew I wasn't after them!!! My tang finally after 2 days got hungry enough or saw the clowns always going In and out and I finally caught him today! When he first went in I tried to pull the trap out with the string as quick as possible but my tang is incredibly fast. I saw it go in the trap again 3 hours after this time I just stuck my hand in front of the entrance/exit and pulled him out safely. Do note that your clean up crew will more than likely get stuck in your trap. Thanks for reading and I hope this can be as useful as it was for me!!

One of the pictures is with the top facing up instead of inside the jug. Like I said this was after the catching my tang. I wanted to share this after it worked

Nice job catching him.

When I had to move my fish I ended up using a piece of clear plexi and a small net. It worked really well, it didn't take more than a minute or so, even on my demonic tomatoes clown. I watched the guy at my LFS chase him for almost to 5 minutes it a tank with no rock.

That's crazy. My tank was to quick for a net but was more comfortable with my hand in the tank, mainly because it's always in there. [emoji23] Not bad considering I pulled the idea for this trap out of thin air haha

I think your method is more in line with the hobby. Slow and steady. ;)
I was just in a rush and had done a quick search on easy ways to to catch bratty fish.

Right! I was trying to be quick because I was not only considered for my tang bit my other fish as well but that didn't work so I decided to go fishing instead [emoji38]
