I have multiple reef aquariums and numerous frag grow out aquariums. I'm trying to slowly move into the coral propagation approach. I'm on year 3 and I'm just now starting to sell corals after collecting hundreds of corals.

In order to save money anything I could do myself I did. After all I needed most funds going towards raising corals and not huge equipment cost.

So this DIY forum us ground probes. I'm not taking all the credit there was another member post about ground probes and I improved on their idea.

This is what I like about reef2reef.

First thing I found my main lead and I installed a gfci protector and properly test to make sure all outlets on the remainder of the circuit would shut off in the case of voltage leaking.

I had some quick crimp connectors and crimp one end so I could plug it into the ground probe. And my stainless steel rod I bent to fit the frame of the aquarium. I also added another crimp connector to the stainless steel rod in case I ever needed to remove it. I solder all wires from each aquarium into one main wire leading into the ground connector.

Needless to say I keep my aquarium at 78 degrees. Not long ago our house AC unit went out so I hooked up a portable air conditioner I purchased from Amazon. It worked great I set the temp at 77 and it quickly cooled it down. I ended up having to a take my wife to the hospital for emergency gall bladder removal. That might when I came home I didn't hear any noise from the fish room. I opened the door and nothing was running. I flipped out, I was tired wasn't thinking. Everything looked alright so I was trying to push the test switch back in. It wouldn't work kept blowing each time. So one by one I looked at all electrical wires. Finally when I got to one aquarium I realized after I turned on my overhead lighting from another circuit. Water moisture was condensing on the out side of the aquarium, stands my walls. I could run my hand across my wall and you could see my hand print.

Needless to say the portable air conditioner did not kept my room at 77 it was 68 and still was on.

My power strips was soaked.

This was the reason why the gfci tripped.

I was extremely thankful that I installed the gfci and the ground probes.

I highly suggest that everyone should use them. The pictures below are my version I made.
Again I used an idea off another members forum and improved upon it.

Thanks for viewing.

Nice job. Only thing id do differently is use titanium or carbon for the probe. I think the same about bending it like you did and wonder why they arent made that way to prevent exposure to the copper wire they have in manufactured probes.
