There's this round PET plastic container that I really want to modify/reshape to use as a mini experimental kreisel tank. I'm not sure if it would be possible and I know I might end up ruining it in the process but I'm still thinking of giving it a try. I didn't have much luck finding any info on how I should do it so I tried to come up with some ideas of my own. I want to ask for as many opinions, advice, ideas, and suggestions as possible.

This is the container.

What I want is to make just the bottom stand part flat and round so it is circler and more consistent with the rest of the side. Like the picture below.

The idea I had was to..
  1. make a mold stand of some type (made of wood or bent metal plate or something) to go inside the container,
  2. put the container upside down and use a heat gun to soften the bottom from the outside
  3. and try to flatten it by rolling a pipe of a sort from the outside.

The issues are.. not only it would be hard to craft this mold stand thingy, the hole on the top is also not big enough to fit a proper-sized (big enough to support the bottom) molding base inside. Initially, I was thinking of a bit of wood cut in the shape of the curve inside or a bent metal plate but the size issue is bugging me.

Do you think this could work? Is there's a better way to do this? I get the feeling there's a much better and easier way to do this that I can't think of. Any response would be much appreciated.

I'd just buy what you need on Ebay or Amazon for $5

Sorry to rain on your parade, but some things are just not worth the time and effort.

Instead of modifying the shape of this tank can you not fit something inside the bottom that provides the modified shape? A lot of the Kreisel tanks I have seen have an exterior shape that is square/rectangular with the interior chamber providing the correct shape. It might be easier/cheaper to buy something. I don't know that these can be easily heated and shaped. If you try it make sure you wear a mask and the room is well ventilated. The fumes could be toxic.
