Just built myself a kalk reactor and tried to follow it by what Ive seen other kalk reactors have. The inlet from the ATO container to the reactor is the only issue im having. I couldnt find any check valves and really didnt want to use one because I know they fail ,so my question is can I just keep the feed line short and not have it go all the way to the bottom of the reactor? If its better to have the hose to the bottom will a hole close to the top break the syphon?

What are you feeding it with? If you use a dosing pump then you should not need a check valve as the dosing pumps usually don't back feed. If using a maxi jet or something like that you will probably have to run a check valve on the feed line. It should not fail though as it should only be surrounded by rodi water. You can also change it out once or twice a year if you have doubts about it. I know of no other way around it but maybe someone else will chime in.

Put a hole at the top of the hose and no more back syphon :) Im going to change the way the hose goes to the bottom with a 3/4 pvc glued to the bottom of the reactor with holes drilled in the pvc with the hose going into that so when the return pump turns on it doesnt kick up the Kalk
