I am in the planning stage of my next DIY led light. I want to run the max number of royal blues. If I run 36 diodes, does anyone know what the minimum amount of whites I can run? Can I run 8 cool whites and 28 royal blue? Will coral do well with that ratio?

are you dimming these LEDs?
IME it's been equal RBs to CWs. With the dimming drivers and a controller, you can adjust your coloration intensity.

the ability to dim LEDS and mix different color levels with a knob/controller is a HUGE part of the LED appeal to me. Its like changing bulb combinations without the cost of buying new bulbs. I guess what i'm saying is, make it dimmable.

Before you choose the ratio you need to consider bins.

Some Bins of cool White are Cooler than others and some Bins of Royal Blue are brighter and give better colour pop.

Dimmable Drivers help you tweak the brightness to obtain the perfect colour balance.

For a 10K look a 1:1 ratio is close.

For 20K 2:1 or 3:1 depending on XP Bins is a good rule of thumb.

My DIY is done with 2:2:1 with Royal Blue:Blue:Neutral White. I did use XM-L whites, though, so they're far more powerful (10w) than the normal XP-G whites. I have mine dialed in at 80% royal blues, 60% blues, 50% whites and I have them running off of a 700mA driver for the RB and B and a 1750mA driver for the whites. The color is a very sharp 20-22k. Very blue but very crisp.
